Not forgotten neighbors

On September 9, 2022, 81 years have passed since the government of the wartime Slovak state issued a regulation on the legal status of Jews – the so-called Jewish Code. That is why this date became the Memorial Day of the Victims of the Holocaust and Racial Violence. A commemorative event was held in Levická Synagogue under the name “Unforgotten Neighbors”.

The goal of the event is to commemorate the persecution and forced deportation of our Jewish fellow citizens and also to commemorate those who helped the persecuted.

The program of the event also included the reading of 70 names of left-wing Jewish citizens who were transported from Slovakia – mostly to concentration camps – and were murdered there or the trace of them was definitively lost.
